Are you sharing your house with your pet? Do you have kids? If your answer to both questions is yes, then, you need to know how to protect your modern sofa. The main concern of homeowners, especially those with pets and kids, when it comes to their furniture is often avoiding damage to the upholstery. Luckily, whether your sofa is either fabric or leather upholstered, there are several ways to take care of it.
Fabric Upholstery
Fabric upholstery is probably the most popular cover buyers choose for their modern sofa. Aside from affordability, they are certainly greatly appealing. But fabrics are oftentimes easily given to stains, fur, scratches and other damage. So here are some tips to help you take care of it:
1. If your modern sofa is placed in the living room or family den, where there is high-traffic, don’t forget to vacuum it at least twice each month. This will greatly reduce the chances of your family catching colds or allergies from dirt, dust or fur from everyday use.
2. Whenever you’re cleaning the furniture, make sure you have a clean, white towel handy. The textile can be easily ruined if the dye runs down during the cleaning process. If this happens, immediately slightly dab the area with the dry towel and don’t forget to avoid rubbing the spill. Most importantly, always instantly clean the furniture after spills so as not to risk the stain’s being permanent.
Another helpful tip is to use slip covers on your furniture. Slipcovers are great protection for the fabric, especially if you have kids or pets in the house. They can easily taken off and cleaned whenever you need to wash them.
Leather Upholstery
Another popular upholstery for these furniture pieces is leather. Although leather pieces can be quite expensive, they are durable and last longer than other types of upholsteries. To make it even last longer and fresher, here are some tips to clean it:
1. If spilled with juice, water or anything liquid, don’t wait for the stain to dry. Instead, use white, dry cloth to wipe off the moisture right away. You can also opt for a professional cleaning service if the stain if rather hard to remove.
2. When cleaning your modern sofa, don’t opt for commercial cleaning solvents. These sometimes contain strong chemicals that can harm the integrity and quality of the leather. These types of cleaning agents, in addition, can further add stains, which are fairly hard to remove.
